Kitchenesia.com - There are many appetizing and beautiful Asian mushrooms you can find on the market, but do you know how to properly store them?

Here are the ways of storing different Asian mushroom at your home.

    1. Straw Mushroom

Straw mushroom, or paddy straw mushroom, is the kind of East and Southeast Asian mushroom you either find fresh or brined on the Asian market.

It looks like the unpolished version of champignon mushroom.

If you happen to find it fresh, wrap it in a towel and put it inside a ziplock bag.

If you find it brined, just put it on the refrigerator along with its sealed pack.

    2. Enoki Mushroom

The thin enoki mushroom can easily get damped and slimy since it resembles the form of thatch – tight and dense.

Make sure you dont store it in the humid part of your refrigerator.

In fact, store it in a plastic bag on the coldest place of your refrigerator.

To even prolong the shelf life, you can cut the root part that holds the mushroom together and put in on the dry kitchen paper before inserting the enoki to the plastic bag.

    3. Ear Mushroom

Most ear mushroom can be easily found on the market in its dried form.

To store it, put ear mushroom in the tightly sealed jar.

It will rehydrate and be ready to use after soaked in hot water.

The mushroom will absorb the water and swell three to five times its size.

The rehydrated mushroom, however, cannot be stored for a long time.

If you want to use it for later, soak it in iced water inside the refrigerator, but it is best used for only a couple hours after.

    4. Coral Mushroom

You can find dried coral mushroom on the Asian market or Chinese herbal market.

As well as the ear mushroom, you can store dried coral mushroom in the tightly sealed jar.

However, the fresh coral mushroom has to be used immediately.

You can store it in a breathable bag such as paper bag to avoid moisture.

If you want to prolong its shelf life, you can pickle it.

Boil the pickling liquid or brine and put it in a sterilized jar.

Soak the whole mushroom in it and tightly seal it.

    Store the pickle in refrigerator.

There are the ways of storing different Asian mushroom at your home. You don’t have to worry about the way of prolonging your mushroom’s shelf life now that you know the trick.
