Tempeh Satay

  • Satay is not only made of chicken, beef, and lamb. you can also make satay out of tempeh especially if you are a vegetarian. this tempeh satay is even more delicious when served with peanut sauce. just make it at home with our recipe.

    satay ingredients:
    1 tempeh, cubed
    3 red chili peppers,ground
    3 cloves shallot,ground
    3 cloves garlic,ground
    5 tablespoons sweet soy sauce
    1 teaspoon salt
    50 ml water
    20 skewers

    peanut sauce ingredients:
    150 grams peanut,fried, ground
    ½ tablespoon tamarind juice
    ½ tablespoon salt
    ½ tablespoon brown sugar
    2 tablespoons cooking oilfor sautéing

    ground spices blend for peanut sauce:
    3 cloves garlic
    3 cloves shallot
    3 red bird’s eye chili peppers
    3 large red chili peppers

    Cooking Steps

    1. Mix all satay ingredients. Let it set for 45 minutes.
    2. Peanut sauce: heat cooking oil on the pan. Sauté ground spices blend until fragrant. Add in peanut. Mix it well.
    3. Add in tamarind juice, salt, and brown palm sugar. Stir it until all peanut sauce ingredients are well-cooked.
    4. Skewer the tempeh. Take two tablespoons of peanut sauce. Glaze tempeh evenly with the sauce.
    5. Grill satay until browned and well-cooked.
    6. Tempeh Satay is ready to serve with peanut sauce on top of it. (yields 20 pieces)
