Spicy Tomato Beef Stir-Fry

Ingredients

350 grams beef shank,cut into 2.5 cm cubes
1 onion, sliced lengthwise
3 cloves garlic,finely chopped
2 cm ginger,crushed
2 large red chili peppers,deseeded, cut into 2 cm pieces
3 dried chili peppers,finely chopped
1 red tomato, cut into pieces
1 star anise
1½ tablespoons oyster sauce
½ tablespoon chili sauce
1 tablespoon ketchup
2 teaspoons sweet soy sauce
1 teaspoon light soy sauce
¼ teaspoon white pepper powder
250 ml water
½ tablespoon sago starchdissolved in ½ tablespoon water
½ teaspoon sesame oil
1 teaspoon lime juice
2 tablespoons cooking oilfor frying
Cooking Steps

  1. Heat cooking oil on the pan. Sauté onion, garlic, ginger, and red chili pepper until fragrant. Add in dried chili pepper, tomato, and star anise. Stir well.
  2. Add in beef. Stir until it changes color. Add oyster sauce, chili sauce, ketchup, sweet soy sauce, light soy sauce, and white pepper. Stir well.
  3. Pour in water. Cook it until boiling. Thicken it with sago starch mixture. Stir well. Slightly before removing it from heat, add in sesame oil and lime juice. Stir well. Remove from heat.
  4. Spicy Tomato Beef Stir-Fry is ready to serve.
